Christian Phillips, Vice President – Christian graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Business Administration and Economics from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). Immediately thereafter, he began taking additional courses and studying to sit for the CPA examination. He earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, and went on to earn a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Johns Hopkins University.
After graduating from Western Maryland College, Christian worked in the construction and real estate industries. As his career progressed, he became Manager of Financial Operations for a national home builder, then Controller for a large regional contractor. In his capacity of running finance departments, Christian was responsible for obtaining and maintaining the proper insurance coverages to protect the business personal property, liability, workers compensation, and bonding needs of the company and for specific jobs. Working for contractors, he gained valuable insight and experience from the employer side of the construction industry.
When he joined Eberts & Harrison, Inc in 2007, Christian began working directly with Bill Harrison to learn the fundamentals of Fiduciary and Union Liability insurance policies, from the legal language of the policies to the understanding and handling of claims. He also completed coursework on Fiduciary Liability insurance offered by Travelers, Ullico, and the Department of Labor.
Over the past few years, Christian expanded his training and knowledge base to property and casualty lines, working with John Harrison on many of the large International Union accounts. He is involved in property and casualty account review and marketing at renewal, well versed in the day-to-day maintenance of large accounts, and can process policy and automobile changes and issue identification cards and certificates of liability when requested. He participates in many engineering studies and loss control surveys to better understand our clients and their property and liabilities, and to help identify exposures in their current insurance programs and provide recommendations.
Christian obtained his Maryland Property and Casualty agents license in February 2008 and continues to pursue additional coursework and insurance industry designations to expand his knowledge base and keep current with changing trends. He earned the Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation sponsored by the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research, and is a member of Insurance Agents & Brokers (IA&B), an organization that provides educational programs to the insurance industry.
